In his Super form, he is shown to be a lot more assertive and maniacal (in the Japanese dub, he does not speak at all aside from yelling Goku's name upon his death. This is retained in later video game appearances where he is reduced to giving feral roars, with the few lines of dialogue he gives being shouted out), and, in the case of the uncut dub, was also prone to cursing when irritated at one's persistence, as evidenced by his yelling "Damn you!" when Goku tried to get up. He is a much more frenzied and brutal character in this form also, as he punches Goku in the crotch (Japanese and uncut dubs only), almost breaks Vegeta's back, grabs and blasts Trunks's skull and steps on Piccolo's face while charging his ki. He also doesn't allow others to fully charge their attacks like Omega Shenron. Despite his mania in this form, he was nevertheless shown to retain a degree of intelligence, as he made an attempt to attack Goku as soon as he saw him charge up the Spirit Bomb (with the English dub even having him claim to know about Goku's Spirit Bomb and vow to not allow him to use it before doing so). The English dub also has Android 13, when pursuing Gohan, expressing grudging respect towards the boy for being able to put up a fight against him despite the odds, while nevertheless telling him the latter is still going to die ultimately.
Being Super (Android)
Even though Android 13, Android 14, and Android 15 are not featured in the Dragon Ball manga, the "Androids A-B-C's" section mentions that Androids 13, 14, and 15 were very close to the Android concept,[5] being near perfect.[6]
Android 13 is completed by Dr. Gero's self-aware supercomputer after Android 14 and Android 15, who by this time are already taking up arms against Goku and Future Trunks. Upon his arrival on the Glacier, 13 confronts Goku, leaving Future Trunks and Vegeta to fight against 14 and 15 respectively. During his fight with Goku, he has the utmost confidence he will surely win the battle and seems to have a slight edge over him. Goku then transforms into a Super Saiyan in hopes to turn the tables,but 13 is still able to fight on par with him if not still having the edge. Shortly after which Piccolo intervenes to assist Goku. Ultimately, 14 and 15 are defeated, following Future Trunks and Vegeta's transformations into Super Saiyans; their deaths are fail-safe, however, as 13 absorbs components from both, resulting in his transformation into Super Android 13.
When Goku transforms into his Super Saiyan form, his body absorbs the Spirit Bomb's immense energy and erases the surrounding ice until the land 13 is standing on is nothing more than a singular pillar. When 13 tries to attack Goku, his arms end up incinerated by the raw energy emitted from Goku and the Spirit Bomb. Afterward, one punch from Goku disintegrates 13, with help from the ki Goku emits (in the edited dub, Goku merely kicks Super Android 13 away before the latter is destroyed, due to the punch impaling the android's stomach being cut out). 13 dies while yelling Goku's name (in FUNimation's dub, he curses that Goku must die). Consequentially at the same moment, Gero's supercomputer shuts down.
After absorbing the components of Android 14 and Android 15, Android 13 is given an enormous power boost. Coupled with his new appearance, 13's power skyrockets ferociously. Despite being attacked by Piccolo (who has fused with Kami at this point), Goku, Vegeta and Future Trunks (the latter three in their Super Saiyan transformations) Super Android 13 is absolutely unfazed. Thanks to being made out of adamantine, his body also becomes so tough that Future Trunks' Sword shatters upon striking his arm. It is only when Goku forms a Spirit Bomb and absorbs it as a Super Saiyan that any damage is done to Super Android 13 at all; and he is defeated in a single punch (in the edited dub, however, Goku merely kicks him away with the titanic android reeling back due to the punch being cut out).[1]
Android 17 makes his return a decade later in Dragon Ball Super, working as a national park ranger on a remote island, preserving wildlife from poachers. He is married and has a child, with two more children being adopted. He is asked by Goku to join Team Universe 7 in the Tournament of Power and due to Goku and Frieza's sacrifice to take out Jiren, he is left as the sole fighter remaining by the end of the tournament making him the winner, and thus the one who gets to make the wish on the Super Dragon Balls.
While reveling in his enhanced might setting him apart from others, Android 17 hated his cybernetics that were forced on him, as Android 18 revealed when refusing Semi-Perfect Cell's attempts at convincing Android 18 into merging with him. This is likely because of the trauma he experienced due to being kidnapped by Gero. It may also be due to his love of nature, as he was no longer a natural being after Gero turned him into an Android.
His slide into maturity is likely a contributing factor to his marriage. He also apparently has a soft spot for children. Despite being relatively indifferent to reuniting with his brother-in-law Krillin, he was very warm to meeting his niece, Marron. In addition, he had a child with his wife, plus adopted two more. It is possible that his decision to adopt two of his three children may have been influenced by his kidnapping at the hands of Dr. Gero.
By the time of the Universe Survival Saga, Android 17 has become much calmer than before, and is a gentleman, suggesting that he is more mature than he had been in the past. Whereas before he was random in his decisions, going purely on his emotional state, he now showed a more collected and pragmatic nature. He has also become very casual and humble, not showing much personal desire beyond providing for his family and protecting the wildlife. He also seems to take his opponents more seriously, a complete departure from his previous superiority-complex self and the murderously sadistic nature of his alternate timeline counterpart.[4] 17 is shown to be very nonchalant and not swayed by any kind of news, even when learning of his potential death should Universe 7 lose in the Tournament of Power, initially refusing Goku's offer to participate despite the circumstances. He also apparently has a soft spot for children, while indifferent to meeting his sister. His child like attitude however is still very present as well as his desire to have a bit of fun while on his way to accomplish his goals, this was mostly shown in the Tournament of Power during his many fights with Universe 2 as he always played along with their over-the-top introductions and antics of love often playing the role of the "villain". However in times of crisis he is capable of being very serious, and even very heroic and this was mostly on display during his final living moments of the Tournament of Power with acts like throwing himself in front of the exhausted and injured Goku and Vegeta to take hits for them due to his infinite energy or even going as far as killing himself to save them from elimination at the hands of Jiren (although 17 is shown to have survived his own technique later on). Another newer personality trait is his tactical sense of fighting. While outclassed by the likes of Top and Jiren, 17 is able to still fight with them and hold them off for considerable lengths of time. This was mostly shown during his final stand against Jiren, where 17 was actually able to get inside of Jiren's head upon learning of his past and his wish for the Super Dragon Balls and was able to use this to give him a slight edge for a moment.
As shown from his choice of career, Android 17 is very outdoorsy, and finds it hard to sit still, seemingly stemming from his previously hyperactive nature. His love of the outdoors may have been influenced by the nature-loving Android 16, with whom 17 was close friends. 17's choice in a wife, a zoologist, may have been influenced by his occupation as a Park Ranger and enjoyment of the wild. 17 cares greatly for nature and was even willing to die to save it by taking on intergalactic space poachers and was willing to allow himself to suffocate in space to prevent them from blowing up. At the same time, not unlike his sister, Android 17 is not without a measure of materialist desire. His greatest dream is to own a large luxury boat, although it is for a simple goal of traveling the world with his wife and children. During the Tournament of Power, he showed much more concern for his sister's well-being. When quickly realizing that she sprained her ankle, despite her denial of it, 17 quickly helped tend to it. Also, whereas before 17 would keep out of 18's battles or insist on fighting alone himself, he was shown in the tournament to work in great synergy with 18.
However, despite being referred to as androids or cyborgs and commonly regarded as such, both Android 17 and his sister are practically neither. Bulma stated while looking at 17's blueprint that he was human-based, but just about everything has been enhanced with bio-organic components.[7] His only mechanical parts are the emergency deactivation controller and self-destruction device (removed).[8] Dragon Ball Super reaffirms this, with Gohan stating that the androids have been modified on cellular level to be superhuman.[9]
With Android 17 and his sister Android 18, Dr. Gero reverted to the old way which consisted in modifying a human being with cybernetic implants. However, they are the first of their kind to be entirely restructured at the cellular level thanks to biotechnology and genetic engineering. Their power comes from a small perpetual energy reactor internalized within their bodies, which provides them with inexhaustible energy and stamina. Since they are human based, they can become stronger if they train. Though they do not require food to sustain themselves, they still need to hydrate. They also age much slower than normal humans, due to the slower rate of decay of the artificial cells in their bodies.
